Data Downloader Online Help

Data Downloader downloads intraday and eod data from various free sources. Data Downloader is extremely easy to use and here's a brief tutorial on how to configure and run Data Downloader.

After you download the zip file, extract the content of the zip file. Run the application Data Downloader.exe. Before downloading any data do remember to configure the settings. Below is a brief description on how to configure Data Downloader to suit your needs.

Configuring the settings

Select Data Paths
Go to Settings > Select Data Path and select the data paths as necessary. Keep in mind each data base are unique.

Configure Data Format
Different charting software's have different data formats. You can customize the downloaded data as per your needs by configuring the data settings. To configure Intraday Data goto Settings > Format Intraday Data and to configure EOD data go to Settings > Format EOD Data. The procedure for both is the same.

On the Settings tab:
If you want to append a header then check on the Append Header check box and write the appropriate header in the textbox below.

Choose the Date and Time format best suited for your charting application from the relevant Dropdown box. You can customize the same as per your needs.

Choose the Delimiter ("," or ";") which will separate the quotes. You can customize the same as per your needs.

Choose the format (ascii txt or csv) in which you want to save the data.

If you want to filter Post Session Data then just check on the "Filter Post Session Data" checkbox and put in the relevant time. Currently this works with Google Intraday Data only.

Click on Save Settings button. Unless you click on this your settings won't be saved.

You can restore to defaults by clicking the Defaults button.

On the Columns tab:
You can customize the data columns. By default the data is appended in

SYMBOL, DATE, TIME, OPEN, HIGH, LOW, CLOSE, VOLUME in case of Intraday Stock data and SYMBOL, DATE, OPEN, HIGH, LOW, CLOSE, VOLUME, OPEN INTEREST in case of EOD data

When you are done do not forget to save the settings.

The data can be customized even for charting applications having unconventional formats like Ninja Trader. Please see the video to get an idea

  Symbol List
Once you have configured the settings you need to edit the relevant text files so that you can download the stock quotes of your favorite stocks.

Four text files comes with the download, namely:

Google Intraday.txt
Yahoo One Minute.txt
Yahoo Five Minute.txt
NSE Indices.txt

You have to append both the Symbol and the Exchange separated by a "," (comma) for Google Intraday. The sample file will give you a fair idea. To get more info on symbol and exchange list do visit Google Finance.

For both Yahoo One Minute and Yahoo Five Minute data you need to append the symbols only. Yahoo symbols for non-US markets are unique in nature as they contains a suffix after the exchange symbol. To know more visit Yahoo Finance.

Do remember both Google and Yahoo supports a whole lot of exchanges so do a bit of exploration.

For NSE Indices you need to put in the indices name only in the txt file. The names should be exactly as they appear in the dropdown list here.

You should put all the txt file in the folder, where Data Downloader exe file is.

Running the application

Once you have configured the settings, the rest is easy. Just open the relevant form from the Download > {Intraday Data or EOD Data} > {data source}, set the downloading parameters and click Download.

Data Downloader is a multi threaded application. You can download data from different sources simultaneously thus saving you a lot of time.
